ISOLATION SIGNs were invented by a Registered Nurse who saw a problem, thought of a solution, and brought it to life.
The idea came after she noticed that visitors were walking, unintentionally, into Isolation Rooms without first washing their hands or putting on gloves and a gown; thereby DRAMATICALLY increasing the patient's exposure to deadly germs and viruses.
Visitors and even Staff were doing this, even though there was a sign on the wall leading into the Isolation Room. Obviously, the sign wasn't getting people's attention.
Seeing this on a daily basis, ISOLATION SIGN's founder had a thought.
"I noticed that we needed to work toward 100% compliance with isolation protocols and adhere to wearing PPE or personal protective equipment. I was always thinking of ways to make it more obvious for staff and visitors. Then I started thinking about something bold for the floor. HAIs or healthcare acquired infections are of epidemic proportions, and we have to do everything possible to combat this."
Her first step was to start networking with key stakeholders. She brought her idea to her manager and the hospital infection preventionist. She shared her vision with key leaders and they embraced the idea and encouraged her to develop her idea into an actual product.
After extensive research and development, she developed a sign that the hospital accepted for a clinical trial in the doorways of all its Isolation Rooms.
The trial turned out to be a huge success and generated lots of positive feedback from hospital staff. As one nurse wrote on her survey, "Visitors to Isolation Rooms can't miss these signs. Being in the doorway, they get everybody's attention....Visitors and Staff alike. The result is that now MANY more people are adhering to proper Isolation protocols, which is a good thing for the Patient AND the Hospital!"
